I went in the evening, partially because I was playing guitar, and partially because I wanted to. I find, though, that often I don’t feel like going…and I’m never quite sure why. I get a lot out of it whenever I do go, but I always seem to be outlandishly tired, or I’ll mysteriously get a headache.

This indicates to me that I’m missing something important. Whenever I push through whatever roadblock is in the way, I end up having something meaningful come out of it. This isn’t to sound superstitious; it’s not a magic formula that I will have the best time ever when I have a headache before prayer. But I do know that I have an enemy who certainly doesn’t want me going to prayer nights. So it makes sense to me that it is always more a struggle to get to said prayer nights.

It’s like Sunday mornings. For many years, Sunday mornings were a gong show and a half for my siblings and I. We squabbled twice as much as normal when trying to get out the door to church. I’m sure our parents were ready to give up and just go with Timeout Sundays at many points. But they pushed through the arguments and whining and got us to church. I think that’s important.

All this to say, I would encourage you that if you are having the most ridiculous time trying to get to some church event, instead of getting frustrated, try viewing it as confirmation that it’s important and worth getting to. A mindset shift can sometimes help make the most out of a hectic morning.

Last Sunday was Regional Prayer.
