Kind of just random music of his, but I’ve particularly been enjoying the song Homesick for Heaven. I think it does a really good job of highlighting a very real ache in the human heart.

Sometimes it feels like this life will never be enough. Like it just can’t satisfy all the cravings of the heart. Whether someone believes in the Good News of Jesus or not, I think deep down this is something we all feel. We all want something more.

I think I’ve talked about this feeling a few times, with different context. This song brought back these reflections, however, as it finally verbalizes something I haven’t been able to name. One of the lines seems to explain this specifically. “There’s an ache in my heart, I’m homesick for Heaven.”

Describing it as homesickness just works for me. Because how else do you describe it?

It’s homesickness for a place we haven’t been, but we know is better. A place of joy and worship and forever.

There is something waiting for us and we can’t even fathom what it will fully be like. But it will be worth it.

I’ll leave you with some of the lyrics of another song that highlights this well: I’ll Fly Away by Josiah Queen with Benjamin William Hastings.

“There is a place I long to go
Where the pain gets turned away right at the door
No one gets sick, no one gets old
No more fighting, no more striving anymore

Cause I’m on a train that’s bound for glory
Got friends and family waiting for me
And they’re already singing, Holy
Singing, Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord

One day I will fly away
Trade these bones for loads of grace
And I just can’t shake this feeling in my soul
Heaven is my home
This world is a temporary place
I’ll leave it one day”

I think it does a really good job of highlighting a very real ache in the human heart.

Sometimes it feels like this life will never be enough.
