What is beauty?
I had to write an essay on this question when I was in grade 8-ish, and it was a tricky question to answer. Beauty is hard to define because while the outer appearance of something can affect beauty, there is also beautiful things that aren’t visible to the eye. There are things that are “objectively beautiful” and things that depend on the person looking at it.
From what I can recall of this essay, I believe what I landed on was beauty comes from God, therefore, true beauty is found in something God has impacted. Creation, made by God, is beautiful because God made it so. The things we find to be the most beautiful are from the Father. It’s kind of a confusing answer, but believe me, it’s a confusing topic.
This beauty is different than surface level beauty, but even that kind of beauty can be impacted by Jesus. There are hundreds of examples on the internet, people who were living in darkness finding Jesus and everything about them changing: their physical looks, the joy from inside, the hope that lights up everything about them. There is so much beauty there because there is so much Jesus there.
What is beauty? In my opinion, Jesus is beauty. He makes everything beautiful and new.
