Secretary’s Corner 91 – August 27

It’s so hard for us, as humans, to give up control. To surrender our lives to the Lord. We have many different descriptors for such an event: Jesus taking the wheel, giving him our fishes and loaves, laying down our crowns…but it’s still hard for us.

We want control. We want autonomy. We want to know what’s going to happen, how it will happen, when it will happen.

To release this to God seems counterintuitive. Maybe it makes it seem like we don’t care. Maybe it feels like we flounder when we can’t control things.

There are pieces of life we can never control, and for something, that is extraordinarily frustrating. For others, it’s easier to relinquish the need to control some of those extra pieces.

Wherever you are on the spectrum of Control-Freak to Surrendered, the Lord is there to walk with you. He is ready to bring you into more, to show you how to surrender.

So lean on him. Not your own understand, not your wisdom or life experience. Rely on the Lord. Wait on him.

“But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:31 ESV)
