Secretary’s Corner 76 – May 7

For the Secretary’s Corner segment this week, I will direct your attention to the two Bible verses (located below). Verse 1 is from Isaiah 65, and the second is from Revelation 21. I was reading through Isaiah the other week when I came upon those verses. They quite directly reflect the same “End of all Things” that the passage in Revelation does.

A new heaven. A new earth. Everlasting joy. Weeping and mourning never being heard again.

I thought this was so cool, as it is one of the more obvious prophetic statements in the Bible. I had never observed this before, and it’s wild to me that Isaiah has these words written down hundreds of years before Jesus, and before there was more of the end times full picture from John in Revelation.

So this week I invite you to read these passages and ponder them. Just sort of…stew. See where that takes you.

Isaiah 65:17-19

“Look! I am creating new heavens and a new earth, and no one will even think about the old ones anymore. Be glad; rejoice forever in my creation! And look! I will create Jerusalem as a place of happiness. Her people will be a source of joy. I will rejoice over Jerusalem and delight in my people. And the sound of weeping and crying will be heard in it no more.”

Revelation 21:1-7

“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the old heaven and the old earth had disappeared. And the sea was also gone. And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven like a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.

I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, “Look, God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them. He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.”

And the one sitting on the throne said, “Look, I am making everything new!” And then he said to me, “Write this down, for what I tell you is trustworthy and true.” And he also said, “It is finished! I am the Alpha and the Omega—the Beginning and the End. To all who are thirsty I will give freely from the springs of the water of life. All who are victorious will inherit all these blessings, and I will be their God, and they will be my children.”
